Practices to Support your Nervous System
Ever catch yourself holding your breath while staring at your phone, or realizing your shoulders have been hiked up to your ears all afternoon?
I know how easy it is to run through the day on autopilot, completely forgetting to check in with how our bodies are actually doing.
But caring for your nervous system doesn't mean you have to change your whole life or add a two-hour routine to your busy day.
It’s really just about giving yourself a few soft moments to breathe.
Here are four ways to bring a little calm back into your day:
Anchor Your Day with Gentle Routines: Create small moments of comfort and predictability. Something as simple as holding a warm mug in the morning or sitting quietly on the couch for five minutes gives your day a peaceful start.
Give Yourself Permission to Choose: Remember that you always have options, even in overwhelming moments. You can step out of the room, take a breath, say no to an invite, or change your mind whenever you need to.
Lean On Safe Connections: You don't have to carry it all alone; spend time with people who truly listen. Sitting with someone who lets you drop your guard and just be yourself takes so much weight off.
Engage in Everyday Grounding Activities: Bring yourself back to the present with small, soothing actions. Feeling cool water on your hands, stretching your legs, or listening to the birds outside helps pull you out of your head and back into your body.
You don't need to try all of these at once.
Just picking one small thing to focus on today gives your body a chance to finally exhale. 🤍
Save this post for whenever you need a quick reminder to slow down.
