Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is often associated with children, but can also be diagnosed in adults.

Some adults may develop symptoms of ADHD later in life, while others (especially females) may have gone undiagnosed until adulthood. The symptoms of ADHD can look different in adults than in children, which sometimes makes it more difficult for adults to get a diagnosis.

Symptoms of ADHD in adults include:

πŸ’™ Becoming easily distracted by low-priority activities
πŸ’™ Having many simultaneous thoughts
πŸ’™ Difficulty paying attention when listening or reading
πŸ’™ Frequently daydreaming or "zoning out"
πŸ’™ Struggling to complete simple tasks
πŸ’™ Overlooking details, leading to errors or incompletion
πŸ’™ Inability to remember conversations or directions
πŸ’™ Getting bored easily and seeking out stimulation
πŸ’™ Poor organizational skills, including lateness and procrastination
πŸ’™ Frequently interrupting others or blurting out at inappropriate times

If this sounds like you, it is worth visiting a mental health professional to determine if you may have adult ADHD. If you do, a therapist can work with you to devise a plan to improve your organizational and interpersonal skills so the symptoms of ADHD do not disrupt your work or relationships.
