Suicide Prevention Awareness

Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, a vital reminder that open, honest conversations can save lives.

Suicide is preventable, but the warning signs aren't always obvious.

Knowing what to look for equips all of us, friends, family, and colleagues, to support the people in our lives when they need it most.

Someone who is struggling might express it through quiet shifts in their behavior, words, or tone:

⚠️ Talking about wanting to disappear or feeling hopeless: This might sound like direct statements about wanting to die, or quieter phrases like "I just want everything to stop" or "I can't see a way through this."

⚠️ Feeling like a burden: Expressing a deep sense that others would be "better off without me" or that nothing they do will ever change their situation.

⚠️ Withdrawing and isolating: Quietly pulling back from loved ones, stepping away from social connections, or losing interest in activities they used to love.

⚠️ Tidying up affairs or giving away belongings: Unexpectedly handing over prized items, saying unusual goodbyes, or suddenly putting personal matters in order.

If you notice these signs in someone you care about, don't wait or assume someone else will step in.

Reach out, ask direct and caring questions, and let them know they don't have to carry the weight alone.
