Somatic Therapy Berkeley

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or just plain stuck?

It might be that your nervous system is on high alert.

When your nervous system is on high alert, trying to force yourself to calm down logically doesn't usually work.

Instead, you have to speak your body's language to tell your brain that you're safe.

If you are feeling a bit scattered or stressed today, try dropping out of your head and into one of these five body-based resets:

👀 Orienting to your environment: Take a slow breath and look around you. Find three blue things, or notice the furthest sound you can hear. It gently anchors your brain back in the present moment.

👣 Grounding through your feet: Press your heels firmly into the floor. Notice the solid support beneath you. It’s a physical reminder that you are stable and held.

🛑 Wall pushes: If you have a ton of restless, anxious energy, put your hands flat against a wall and push with all your strength. It safely releases that built-up stress.

🧊 Temperature-based grounding: Splash some cold water on your face or hold an ice cube for a moment. The sudden temperature shift acts like a quick reset button for your nervous system.

🌊 Rhythmic movement: Gently rock your body, sway side to side, or tap your thighs. Predictable, repetitive motions naturally soothe a stressed system.

You don't have to fix everything at once.

Sometimes, healing is just about taking one small moment to help your body feel a little more secure.
