Signs of Trauma Blocking

Keeping yourself constantly busy, plugged in, or distracted usually isn't just a habit, it's often a sign of trauma blocking.

When uncomfortable or heavy feelings start bubbling up, your system will do almost anything to keep you from having to face them.

On the outside, it might look like you're just super productive or glued to your phone, but underneath, it’s really your mind and body trying their best to protect you from pain.

Here are a few ways trauma blocking tends to sneak into our daily routines:

  • 📱 Endless scrolling: Getting lost on social media for hours just to keep your mind occupied.

  • 👥 Fearing solitude: Filling every single quiet second with company, sometimes even staying in relationships that aren't good for you, because being alone feels too scary.

  • 💼 Overworking non-stop: Answering emails late at night and refusing to set work boundaries so you never have to pause.

  • 🛒 Numbing out: Turning to mindless eating, drinking, or shopping sprees to take the edge off.

  • 🌀 Reaching for any distraction: Doing whatever you can to avoid sitting with what you're actually feeling deep down.

If any of this sounds familiar, please be gentle with yourself.

These patterns aren't personal failures, they’re just signs that your nervous system feels overwhelmed and is trying to keep you safe.

If you're in California and ready to gently unwind these patterns in a safe, warm space, we are here for you at Life By Design Therapy.
