Mental Health Therapist Tips

When you’ve spent so long carrying the world on your shoulders, that constant internal pressure can start to feel like a permanent part of who you are.

It’s that hollow, overextended sensation where your mind is pleading for a break, but your body is still humming with a nervous energy it can’t quite shake.

You’re physically drained, yet your system feels like it’s vibrating, unable to land or find a soft place to rest.

If you’ve been operating in high-gear for years, your body has integrated this state of "alert" as its only way to keep you safe.

It isn't that you’ve lost the ability to be still; it’s that your system has become a master at staying prepared for whatever comes next.

This physical bracing, the clenched jaw, the hiked shoulders, the shallow breath, is actually a deeply intuitive response to the stress you’ve navigated.

But living in a state of constant preparation is exhausting.

At Life By Design Therapy, we want to help you send a different kind of message to your system. We’ve put together a few gentle tips to help you communicate directly with that anxiety stored in your body:

  • Soften the space between your eyes to ease the internal gaze.

  • Relax your jaw and let go of the words you’ve been holding.

  • Drop & roll your shoulders away from your ears to release the weight of the "shoulds."

  • Place a hand on your chest and breathe deep, reminding your heart it’s okay to slow down.

  • Notice & relax big muscle groups, allowing your legs and glutes to finally be supported by the chair or floor.

  • Close your fists & then spread your fingers as a physical way to let that energy move through you.

When you offer your body these tiny moments of ease, it might feel a bit strange at first.

Your nervous system might even resist the quiet, waiting for the next demand to pull you back into the fray.

But these small, intentional ripples of softness are how we begin to show the body that the danger has passed.

Is your body feeling a little too familiar with that "on-call" feeling lately? 🌿

If you’re in California and you’re ready to guide your nervous system toward a deeper sense of internal refuge, we’re here to walk that path with you.
