Fawn - Trauma Response

Wrapping up our series on trauma responses, today we’re looking at the Fawn response.

Fawning is all about finding safety through connection, approval, and keeping the peace.

It often develops when your nervous system learns early on that the safest way to handle conflict, unpredictability, or tension is to keep everyone around you happy, even if it means completely stepping away from your own needs.

Here’s how the Fawn response often shows up in real life:

🤝 People-pleasing at your own expense: Saying "yes" to every request or obligation out of a quiet fear of letting someone else down or causing friction.

🚧 Blurred or missing boundaries: Struggling to say "no" or carrying a wave of guilt whenever you try to protect your own time and energy.

🤐 Difficulty speaking up: Hiding your true opinions, feelings, or preferences just to side-step potential conflict or disagreement.

🔗 Codependent patterns: Feeling entirely responsible for fixing other people's emotions or always prioritizing their comfort over your own well-being.

Your natural empathy and desire for harmony are incredible strengths, but you don't have to abandon yourself to stay safe or loved.

Relearning how to set boundaries and honor your own voice takes practice, but it's entirely possible to build relationships where your needs matter just as much.
