Window of Tolerance
Do you ever feel like you are vibrating on a frequency too high for your body to handle, or perhaps like you’ve been unplugged from the world entirely?
It is so common for our nervous systems to react to stress by either revving up or shutting down, pushing us out of our natural capacity to cope.
At Life By Design Therapy™, we help you understand these internal states so you can find your way back to a place of grounded presence.
We often see clients experiencing a “hyperaroused state” when they feel overwhelmed.
In this state, your body may activate a fight or flight response, resulting in emotional reactivity, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of panic or rage.
You may physically notice sweaty palms or an increased heart rate, keeping you in a state of exhausting hyper-vigilance.
Conversely, our therapists support those who have drifted into a hypoaroused state.
This feels like a shut down rather than a racing engine. It can involve a freeze response, zoning out or dissociation, and becoming completely numb or experiencing a lack of emotions.
Many people in this state feel lethargic with low energy, exhibiting little to no physical movement.
When you give yourself permission to identify which state you are in, you are creating the safety you need to return to your optimal level of functioning.
We believe in helping you expand your ability to remain present, in the moment, and aware, so you can ultimately feel safe to think and respond clearly from a calm and engaged place.
Which zone have you been spending the most time in lately?
If you are ready to find your way back to balance and are seeking a warm, grounded approach to healing, our team is here for you.
We often have availability for new clients; connect with us through the link in our bio to start the journey of expanding your window.
