Expectations vs Reality Relationship

Relationships are a beautiful blend of magical moments and everyday realities.

If you are struggling in your relationship today, we want to invite you to pause and reflect on what your expectations are for your partner and if they match the reality of your relationship at this moment.

For example, you’re an exhausted mother, and the dishes are piled in the sink, toys are everywhere, kids are crying and the garbage needs to be taken out. Your partner, who is struggling with depression, walks in from work and sits on their phone the rest of the night. Of course this triggers you, because you had an expectation that they would help with at least the dishes. In this moment you should pause and reflect on whether or not communication involved. Another good question to ask yourself is, does your partner have the capability to perform theses tasks or have they tapped all of their mental resources for that day.

If you find that your expectations do not match the reality you both are in, it can provide you a space to have grace for them, and free yourself from unnecessary stress.

If you are in need of relationship counseling, Life By Design Therapy has a team that can support both you and your partner through your struggles. Head to the link in our bio to schedule your free phone consultation today!
