Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and was developed by Marsha Linehan in the 1970s to treat acutely suicidal patients. The treatment is most known for treating borderline personality disorder (BPD), though Linehan's intention was to address suicidal and self-harming behaviors (which many people with BPD struggle with).
Now, DBT is widely accepted as applicable for a variety of mental health conditions, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and more.
